Mermaids of Atlantis ![]() Steve's popularity as an artist is definitely on the rise! He recently finished a series of works for "Rifts" which is a very popular Role Playing Game. For people new to the world of "RPG's," it is important to know that the art work can make or break a game. As an avid collector of Role Playing Games, I can attest to that fact. The artist must create characters that live and breathe, not just the traditional sprites that were normal in the "RPG's" of the '80's and '90's. He's also received an award from "Eppie" for "Lives Of Ghosts," it being the best new novel in an anthology series. Steve also specializes in many art styles as he creates fantastical works for a number of purposes, including many things within the Sci-Fi realm, such as book covers. I chose to review one of his fantasy paintings titled, "Mermaids of Atlantis." In myth and legend, the Mermaid is capable of bewitching a sailor into the briny deep. Steve's mermaids are capable of pulling us into the undersea fantasy world that he has created in acrylics. Bold sea blues and cool greens invite the viewer to take a swim. They've given me a magic spell, so that I can breathe under water without scuba gear! The legendary world of Atlantis has been searched for by many people, since the beginning of its historic demise. It's a treat to be able to glimpse the under water world of Atlantis with its intriguing humanoid/fish inhabitants. As humans, we have dogs and cats as pets, while the mermaids have dolphins. Bewitched by their mermaid owners, the dolphins are posing for the artist as the mermaids hold them gently in their embrace. In the background above the water line, a setting sun boldly gleams from a clouded blue sky. I know that the mountain sparkling in the distance, is home to unseen fairies and their families, as they are surely splashing and sliding down the waterfall. As the ocean churns, Steve has captured the sun's brilliance, coming from behind the waves. This only adds more to the breathtaking beauty of this painting. Steve shares with us that he likes working in acrylics on canvas, as well as with computer graphics, and he has been fine tuning his style for the last 25 years. Anyone who views Steve's work will see realistic detail and color that the artist says brings his work to life. He also would love to hear from his fans, and invites you to commission him for any new projects. Article by: Terri Campbell posted:01 Oct 2008 Related Link: http://www.fantasy-graphic.com |
